Is Jill Stein backed by the Kremlin?

A recent interview of the Green Party’s presidential candidate, in which she refused to call Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal for invading Ukraine, has renewed questions about the reasons and financial backing behind Jill Stein’s candidacy.

In 2018, NBC News showed a photo of Stein at a 2015 Kremlin dinner with Putin and Michael Flynn, and said her name was part of a huge social media blitz by Russian operatives to to siphon support away from Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and help Trump win the 2016 election. Clinton has called Stein a Russian asset.

There’s no question in this dead-heat presidential election, third party candidates who pull ANY support away from Trump or Harris will help decide America’s 47th president. It’s why RFK Jr. worked to get his name removed from select state ballots when he joined forces with Trump.

Democratic National Committee Spokesperson Matt Corridoni recently said: “Jill Stein is a useful idiot for Russia. After parroting Kremlin talking points and being propped up by bad actors in 2016 she’s at it again. Jill Stein won’t become president, but her spoiler candidacy — that both the GOP and Putin have previously shown interest in — can help decide who wins. A vote for Stein is a vote for Trump.”

Center-left think tank Third Way has also called Stein a “Putin Puppet,” a Russian asset and a hypocrite who invests in fossil fuels, rarely criticizes Trump for things like overturning Roe v. Wade and is aided by Republican PACs and far-right donors. Stein has made no secret of the fact that her ultimate goal is ensuring that Kamala Harris not be elected president, even though Trump believes climate change is a hoax and said (at their presidential debate) that Biden “has become a Palestinian” who isn’t letting Israel finish the war.

The progressive wing of the Democratic Party is also critical of Stein. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called Stein “predatory.” If Stein is an unwitting Trump enabler and Putin plant, she is a deliberate narcissist who cares not at all whether America’s democracy will endure.

For her part, Stein said she was dining with Putin in 2015 to deliver a message of peace. In an interview with Democracy Now, she talked about the infamous photo and derided Trump’s presidency as a disaster while also saying she was confident Republicans would put up guard rails around Trump. News flash: they did not, hence two Trump impeachments, the January 6 insurrection, and the real possibilty of the convicted felon becoming America’s next President. If that’s the outcome, it will have been with Stein’s help.
